Swallow Necklace | Bird Necklace

Swallows were a common motif in Victorian and Edwardian jewelry symbolic of faithful love and a safe return home.

This antique 18k gold necklace (circa 1910) features a swallow clutching a branch of diamonds in its beak framed by a golden circle. The swallow is surmounted by a ruby and a tiny pearl dangles beneath.

The pendant measures 2.1 inches from the top of the ruby to the bottom of the pearl by 0.9 inches wide. It is in very good condition with a small chip to the crown facet of the ruby and a surface reaching inclusion in the largest diamond. There is also a bit of wear to the nacre of the post set pearl. All condition issues are visible only under magnification.

Materials: Ruby, Gold.
