Georgian Mourning Ring of 14k Gold

A perfect treasure for anyone with an appreciation of antique mourning jewelry!

This finely detailed ring features a hand painted sepia and macerated hair scene depicting a woman gazing mournfully at an urn on a plynth beneath a weeping willow tree.

We found the piece as a 10k gold bar pin; however the pin was not original to the piece, so our jeweler removed it and added a 14k gold band. He did this carefully and thoughtfully so as to preserve the original engraving on the reverse.

The piece commemorates the passing of a young woman. The reverse is engraved - 'Elizabeth Cooper Died Nov 7th 1798 aged 20 years."

The face of the ring measures 1 inch from top to bottom by 0.6 inches wide, and it is in good condition with some past moisture residue noticeable on the bottom left side of the ring.

Note: The ring box in the photo is for display purposes only and is not included with the ring.

Materials: 14k gold, 10k gold.
