An extraordinary 18th century foil backed garnet heart ring (circa 1720-1760).
This rare garnet cluster ring is rendered in the form of a twisted heart, known as a witch's heart (a symbol that the giver had become "bewitched" and had fallen in love with the recipient). The ring features foil backed table cut garnets in rubbed over collets. It acid tests for 14k gold and the interior of the ring is etched with the Roman numerals XVIII.
The ring is in good condition; however, one of the garnets is a later replacement (visible under magnification). It is currently a size 9.25, but can be re-sized free of charge.
Materials: Garnet, Gold.
