Shibuichi, a traditional Japanese mixed metal alloy known for its subtle, distinctive patina, provides an elegant backdrop for the sculptural gold bird. The heron, admired for its grace and elegance, lends the piece a sense of quiet refinement. Our jeweler thoughtfully transformed the original Meiji-era plaque into a wearable pendant by adding an 18K gold backing and bail, finished with an Old European-cut diamond surmount. This harmonious combination of traditional Japanese metalwork and antique diamond detail creates a striking pendant that bridges East Asian artistry with Western jewelry design.

The pendant measures approximately 1.9 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom by 0.7 inches wide, and it weighs 9.97 grams. It remains in great antique condition.

Metal authenticity was professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s acid testing to confirm the shibuichi and 18K gold components. Gemstone identification of the diamond was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy, a non-destructive analytical technique that provides a precise chemical fingerprint to help characterize the materials.

Watch the video HERE

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0445/7909/files/antique-meiji-japanese-shibuichi-heron-pendant-18k-gold-1518778.jpg?v=1793672179
