In ancient folklore, aquamarine was purported to be the treasure of mermaids and sailors believed that the stone could protect them during voyages at sea.
This simple, yet elegant necklace (circa 1925-1935) features two aquamarine stones separated by a vertical gold bar. The bottom stone is a rectangular cushion cut natural aqua of approximately 1.27 carats. The top stone is a round natural aqua of approximately 0.45 carats.
The pendant is marked for 9ct gold, and the 18 inch chain is marked "375" and is also 9ct gold. The pendant is 1.6 inches (42mm) long by 0.3 inches (7mm) wide. The necklace weighs 2.5 grams and is in excellent condition. There is only one extremely small chip out of one corner of the table on the large aqua (visible only upon magnification).
