Antique Enamel Cherub Pocket Watch of 18k Gold

This exceptional French pocket watch (circa 1880–1890) is a jewel of late 19th-century craftsmanship, masterfully executed in solid 18k gold. The front cover is adorned with a finely painted enamel scene depicting a cherubic child draped in flowing cloth, gracefully seated on a swing. The child tenderly holds a bird while another flutters nearby, evoking themes of innocence, freedom, and play. Surrounding the vignette are delicate garlands adorned with tiny rose-cut diamond accents, lending a subtle sparkle to this poetic tableau.

The reverse of the case bears the engraved initials “MA,” while the interior is inscribed “Remontoir Cylindre 10 Rubis Qualité Supérieure No. 50500,” attesting to the precision and superior construction of the movement. French-made timepieces of this caliber were often treasured as both functional watches and objets d’art, embodying refinement and luxury.

The watch measures 2 inches from the top of the bail to the base by 1.3 inches wide, and it weighs a substantial 28.58 grams. The gold has been verified through XRF (x-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s acid testing, ensuring authenticity. It remains in great condition and does appear to keep time when wound, though we recommend regular servicing for continued use.
