Belle Epoque Convertible Diamond Necklace of 18k Gold and Silver

An exquisite French Belle Époque necklace dating from 1905–1910, this piece features delicate clover motifs and scrolling flourishes set with diamonds in silver-topped 18 karat gold. Its airy, lace-like composition exemplifies the elegance and refinement of the period, when jewelers favored platinum-like silver settings to enhance the brilliance of diamonds while maintaining the warmth and strength of gold beneath.

The central diamond—a 0.95 ct old European cut—is graded H–I color and SI2 clarity, and the necklace has a total diamond weight of approximately 6.67 carats.
The jewel was likely originally part of a larger tiara/necklace, reflecting the grand, convertible designs that were fashionable in the early 20th century. Our jeweler has thoughtfully adapted the piece with custom 14k gold ear wires, allowing the central diamond elements to be removed and worn as a dramatic pair of drop earrings.

The diamond centerpiece measures approximately 2.9 by 4.8 inches, while the necklace itself is 14 inches in length. When worn as earrings, each drop measures 2.5 inches from the top of the ear wire to the bottom and 0.7 inches wide.

The piece is presented in excellent antique condition and has a total weight of 31.29 grams. Metal authenticity has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis along with traditional jeweler’s acid testing, confirming its silver-topped 18 karat gold construction.
