Vintage Plus Qu'hier, Moins Que Demain Pendant of 18k Gold

A romantic vintage pendant dated 1955, crafted in solid 18k gold and inscribed on the front with the celebrated French phrase “Plus qu’hier, moins que demain” (“More than yesterday, less than tomorrow”), delicately accented with a tiny diamond plus and ruby minus. The pendant is by Augis, the renowned French jeweler associated with this iconic design, and is marked “AA” on the front of the piece. The phrase originates from L’éternelle chanson, a love poem written in 1889 by French poet Rosemonde Gérard, and has since become one of the most enduring and beloved expressions of romantic devotion in French culture, symbolizing a love that grows deeper with time.

The reverse bears the engraved inscription “Josy Mimi 25-11-55,” lending intimate provenance and personal history to this meaningful love token. The pendant measures approximately 1.1 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom by 0.5 inches wide and weighs 2.65 grams.

The gold has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and confirmed with jeweler’s acid testing, authenticating its 18k composition. In excellent vintage condition, this pendant is a beautiful example of mid-20th-century French sentimental jewelry, ideal for collectors who appreciate poetic provenance, personal inscription, and finely crafted gold jewels.
