This enchanting pendant (circa 1900-1915) combines two powerful symbols of transformation and re-birth.
Snakes, which shed their skin, have long associations with transformation, immortality, and healing. Likewise, the scarab beetle, is also an ancient symbol of renewal, creation, and rebirth.
This Egyptian revival pendant (circa 1910) is rendered of 14k gold with two serpents surrounding a faience (ceramic) scarab with a vibrant turquoise dangle.
The pendant measures 1.5 inches from top to bottom by 0.75 inches wide, and it is in great condition with a small bit of lead solder visible on the reverse of the turquoise under magnification. It is accompanied by a 16 inch, 14k gold chain.
