Antique Spider Pendant of 14k Gold

A captivating antique pendant, featuring a finely modeled spider motif centered with a luminous cat’s eye quartz and a delicate half pearl, all crafted in solid 14k gold. Spider imagery was especially popular in late Victorian jewelry, symbolizing creativity, patience, and good fortune, and was admired for the opportunity it provided jewelers to create expressive, sculptural designs. The cat’s eye quartz displays a subtle chatoyancy that shifts with the light, lending the spider a sense of movement and life, while the pearl adds a soft, elegant contrast.

Originally created as an antique stickpin dating to 1890–1900, the piece was thoughtfully transformed by our jeweler by removing the original pin stem and adding a 14k gold jump ring bail, allowing it to be worn as a pendant while preserving its period character and proportions.

The pendant measures approximately 0.9 inches from the top of the jump ring to the bottom by 0.6 inches wide and weighs 2.02 grams, offering a refined yet visually engaging presence. The gold has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and confirmed with traditional jeweler’s acid testing, authenticating its 14k composition. In great antique condition, this piece is a striking example of Victorian novelty jewelry, ideal for collectors who appreciate symbolic motifs, unusual gemstones, and sensitively executed antique conversions.
