Victorian Butterfly Earrings and Brooch Set in Original Box

A charming Victorian-era jewelry suite (circa 1870), including a brooch and matching pair of earrings, preserved in their original fitted presentation box. The pieces are designed as delicate butterflies, adorned with sapphires and blue glass, accented by luminous pearls, all set within boat-shaped forms crafted to resemble folded leaves. Both whimsical and refined, the design reflects the Victorian fascination with nature and symbolism, with butterflies representing transformation and beauty.

The brooch measures approximately 1.05 inches by 2.3 inches and weighs 5.55 grams. The earrings each measure 1.15 inches from the top of the ear wire to the bottom and 0.8 inches wide, with a combined weight of 3.42 grams. The original box measures 3.4 inches by 3.4 inches by 1.5 inches tall.

The set is presented in excellent antique condition, with stones secure and details well preserved. The original box shows wear to the pink fabric interior, consistent with age.

Gemstone identification has been confirmed using Raman spectroscopy, a non-destructive analytical technique that provides a precise chemical fingerprint for verification. The pieces are marked for 18 karat gold; XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis indicates an approximate gold purity of 17 karats, which is not uncommon in antique jewelry due to historical alloying practices and surface measurement variability. Additional verification has been carried out using traditional jeweler’s acid testing.
