Dramatic and rare, this antique pendant (circa 1880–1900) began life as a brooch and was later converted with the addition of an antique silver-topped 14k gold bail. The jewel features a finely rendered insect in platinum, its body accented with sparkling diamonds and vivid rubies, perched atop a sleek oval onyx plaque framed in warm 14k gold.
The interplay of materials — platinum, ruby, diamond, and onyx — reflects the late Victorian fascination with both natural motifs and bold contrasts, while the insect itself serves as a powerful symbol of resilience, transformation, and protection.
The pendant measures approximately 1.75 inches from the top of the bail to the base by 0.85 inches wide and remains in excellent condition, with all gemstone accents and enamel details beautifully preserved.
Its gold and platinum content, along with the gemstones, have been professionally verified using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis, jeweler’s acid testing, and gemstone assessment, ensuring authenticity and quality.
