A whimsical yet elegant transformation, this antique insect—originally crafted as a brooch in the late Victorian era (circa 1890–1900)—has been thoughtfully converted into a pendant, making it a one-of-a-kind conversation piece.
Rendered in warm 10k gold, the insect's body is composed of a glowing opal cabochon, prized for its shifting play of color, and is accented with creamy pearls that add both texture and luminosity. The original brooch fittings were professionally removed, and a solid gold jump ring bail was added to preserve the integrity and spirit of the original design while giving it modern wearability.
The pendant measures approximately 0.9 inches from the top of the jump ring to the bottom by 0.7 inches wide. It is in very good antique condition with minimal wear consistent with age and conversion.
The gold has been tested using both XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and jeweler’s acid testing to confirm its 10k purity.
Delicate, distinctive, and rich in antique charm, this pendant is a captivating addition to any curated jewelry collection.
Materials: 14k gold, Opal, Pearl.
