Antique Banded Agate Snake Pendant of 18k Gold

A rare and bewitching example of Victorian symbolism, this antique pendant features a sinuous 18k gold snake coiled protectively around a lustrous banded agate tablet, adorned with a delicate diamond-set flower. A talisman of eternal love, wisdom, and rebirth, the serpent motif was a favored emblem in 19th-century jewelry—imbued with both power and grace.

Originally crafted circa 1870 as a Victorian stickpin, this remarkable jewel was converted by our jeweler into a pendant by removing the original pin stem and adding a solid 14k gold bail. The thoughtful conversion preserves the historic artistry of the original while creating a wearable piece suitable for the modern connoisseur.

Measuring approximately 1.4 inches from the top of the bail to the base and 0.5 inches across, the pendant weighs 4.27 grams. The gold was tested via X-ray fluorescence (XRF), confirming a solid 18k composition. The banded agate displays natural striations of black and white, while the antique diamond flower adds a luminous focal point with a touch of sparkle. All elements remain in very good antique condition.
