If this pendant could talk, oh the stories it might tell! Stories of early 18th century life, of the individual whose hair was used in the painting, of the artisan who created this miniature , and of the many owners who must have lovingly treasured this piece for over 200 years.
This antique mourning pendant was originally a Georgian era stick pin (circa 1770). It is mounted in 18k gold and depicts a classically robed woman (symbolizing grief) with her hand pointed upward (denoting death). The miniature was expertly hand painted with sepia and macerated hair. The 14k gold bail is a later addition.
The pendant measures 1.5 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom of the piece by 0.6 inches wide. It is in great condition, and we are providing the option to purchase the piece with or without the 18.5 inch, 10k gold chain, depicted in the photos.
Materials: Gold.
