Renaissance Revival Charm of 18k and 14k Gold

A richly expressive antique charm, featuring a finely rendered figural woman executed in enamel and solid 18k gold, originally created as a Renaissance Revival stickpin dating to 1870–1890. Renaissance Revival jewelry drew inspiration from classical portraiture and early European ornament, and this piece reflects that influence through its sculptural modeling, expressive features, and painterly enamel work.

The charm was thoughtfully transformed by our jeweler by removing the original pin stem and adding a 14k gold bail, allowing it to be worn as a pendant while preserving the integrity, scale, and historic character of the original jewel. The interplay of richly colored enamel against warm gold creates a striking visual depth, highlighting the artistry of late 19th-century figural design.

The piece measures approximately 1.1 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom by 0.8 inches wide and weighs 5.77 grams, offering a substantial and visually commanding presence. The gold has been professionally evaluated using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s testing, confirming its 18k and 14k composition.

The charm is in great antique condition overall, with minor wear to the enamel at the woman’s forehead and nose, consistent with age. A compelling and collectible example of Renaissance Revival figural jewelry, ideal for collectors who appreciate narrative imagery, historical craftsmanship, and sensitively executed antique conversions.
