Antique Insect Garnet Earrings | Victorian Garnet & Diamond Bug Earrings

You'll be sure to generate buzz with these dramatic insect earrings from the mid-to-late Victorian era (circa 1870-1890).

Jewelry incorporating natural and botanical elements reached a peak during the late 19th century spawned in part by curiosity over the discoveries and publications by naturalists like Charles Darwin. These sensual Victorian earrings feature red wine cabochon garnets accented with sparkling diamond butterflies and dragonflies. The earrings are set in 18k yellow gold (unmarked, but acid tested) and the ear wires, which appear to be a later addition, are 10k gold.

These dramatic earrings are in very good overall condition; however, one of the garnets in the surmount has a very small surface chip to that is visible only under magnification and one of the small rose cut diamonds is missing from one of the dragonflies (also only visible under magnification).

The earrings measure 1.4 inches from top to bottom by 0.4 inches wide. They would be a wonderful addition to any fine antique jewelry collection.

Materials: Garnet, Gold.
