Victorian Mourning Pendant of 14k Gold

In Victorian times, the pearls of a mourning piece were used to symbolize the tears of those left behind.

This antique 14k gold mourning piece features a carved black and white agate cameo haloed in pearls. The pendant was originally an antique brooch (circa 1840-1860) transformed by removing the pin findings and welding on a new 14k gold bail.

The cameo depicts an urn beneath a weeping willow tree, and the locket on the reverse holds a plait of woven hair.

The piece measures 1.9 inches from the top of the bail to bottom by 0.4 inches wide. It is in good condition; however, there is a stable hairline crack on the front (visible only under magnification).

Materials: Agate, Gold.
