Amethyst Necklace | Antique Amethyst Necklace

Amethyst has been a beloved stone since ancient times. In Greek mythology, a young girl named Amethyst was turned to stone by the Goddess Diana to protect her from Dionysus, the God of wine. Dionysus was deeply saddened over this and when his tears hit his wine goblet, the stone maiden is said to have turned from white quartz to a beautiful purple hue.

This negligee pendant (circa 1901-1910) features a faceted natural amethyst and two unevenly suspended natural amethyst drops. The paperclip link chain is 16 inches and the drop adds an additional 1.7 inches to the overall length. The necklace is unmarked, but acid tests for 9ct gold and weighs 4.5 grams. It is in excellent condition.

Materials: Amethyst, Gold.
