A masterwork of 19th-century craftsmanship, this elegant diamond pendant (circa 1860–1890) captures the romance of the era with exceptional detail. The design centers on an open-back mine cut diamond of approximately 0.40 carats, set in a coronet mount, and encircled by 37 closed-back rose cut diamonds. Together, the stones total approximately 1.4 carats, creating a striking play of light and shadow.
The pendant is composed of silver-topped 14k yellow gold, measuring 2 inches in height by 1.2 inches in width. Though unmarked for gold content, the piece bears several “G.H.” maker’s marks along with a bale stamped with the letter “A.” The bale itself is screwed into place, underscoring the original intent for this jewel to serve as a convertible design—meant to be worn in multiple ways.
The gold has been authenticated through XRF analysis and jeweler’s acid testing, with the latter leaving two minor abrasions on the back (visible only under magnification). These subtle test marks speak to the care taken in ensuring the integrity and authenticity of the piece.
Offered in very good condition, this pendant embodies the versatility and enduring beauty of 19th-century design, making it a rare and distinguished addition to a curated fine jewelry collection.
