An exquisite Georgian era brooch expressing a beautiful sentiment of love.
The piece dates to the early 1800s and a similar example can be found in the British Museum collection (see the attached).
The 15ct gold brooch features a cherub hand painted in plaster and accented with very fine micro beads atop of blue enamel under a domed crystal surrounded by half pearls. The brooch bears the French phrase, "Si je te Perds, je suis Perdu" which translates to "If I Lose You, I Am Lost." The reverse is inscribed '27.10.51 from Mummy.' We believe that the the Mother gifted a piece that was about 50-60 years old to her child in 1851.
The brooch measures 1 inch in diameter, and it is in wonderful condition with some light surface wear to the crystal visible under extremely close inspection. Also, the original c-clasp was replaced at some point in the past with a safety clasp.
Note: The antique box in the photo is for display purposes only and is not included with the brooch.
Materials: 15k gold, Pearl, Enamel, micro beads.
