Antique Diamond Swallow Earrings

A beautifully expressive pair of antique swallow earrings, featuring finely modeled swallows set with rose cut diamonds and vivid red spinel eyes, crafted in sterling silver topped 9k rose gold. Swallows were among the most beloved motifs of the late Victorian era, symbolizing love, fidelity, protection, and safe return, and their elegant silhouettes lend these earrings both movement and narrative charm. The rose cut diamonds offer soft, period-appropriate sparkle, while the red spinel eyes add warmth and character to each bird’s expressive face.

Originally part of an antique brooch dating to the 1880s, these swallows were expertly transformed into earrings by removing the original pin fittings and adding 18k gold posts, allowing them to be worn comfortably as earrings while preserving their antique proportions and integrity. One of the eyes is a later replacement.

Each earring measures approximately 0.7 inches by 0.8 inches wide, with a combined weight of 5.32 grams, giving them a pleasing, substantial feel without excess weight. The metals have been professionally evaluated using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s testing, confirming their composition. In great antique condition, these earrings are exceptional examples of Victorian figural jewelry, ideal for collectors who appreciate symbolism, fine gemstone detailing, and sensitively executed antique conversions.
