Antique Lizard Stickpin of 18k Gold

A striking and highly detailed antique stickpin (circa 1880-1900), featuring a sculptural lizard crafted in solid 18k gold, richly embellished with rose cut diamonds, a vivid emerald, two natural ruby eyes, and carefully applied black enamel accents. Reptile motifs were particularly popular in late Victorian jewelry, symbolizing regeneration, vitality, and protection, and were admired for the opportunity they provided jewelers to showcase fine craftsmanship and expressive detail.

The lizard’s sinuous form and contrasting gemstone palette give the piece remarkable presence, while the enamel detailing adds depth and visual drama. The pin head measures approximately 0.9 inches by 0.5 inches wide, with the entire pin measuring 2.8 inches long, making it substantial yet elegant in scale.

The gold has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and confirmed with traditional jeweler’s acid testing, authenticating its 18k composition. The pin is in good condition with some loss to the black enamel and a chip to the emerald on the head (visible under magnification).
