A rare survivor of the early 19th century, this antique stickpin (circa 1800–1830) depicts a whimsical yet formidable jester or clown, its figure brought to life with diamond and ruby accents and a tiny knife clutched in one hand. The design captures both the humor and hidden danger historically associated with jesters, making this jewel as symbolic as it is visually striking.
The clown’s form measures 0.88 inches tall by 0.88 inches wide, with the entire stickpin extending 3.35 inches in length. The composition is silver topped with 18k gold, an elegant metalworking technique of the era. The pin remains in very good condition, with only a trace of enamel chipping on the hat, visible solely under magnification.
The metal content has been verified through XRF (x-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s acid testing, ensuring both authenticity and purity.
Jewels featuring figural motifs of jesters and clowns from this early period are exceedingly uncommon. This piece, with its blend of playful enamel work, glittering gemstones, and symbolic undertones, stands as a collector’s treasure—an extraordinary fusion of humor, artistry, and historic craftsmanship.
Materials: Gold, Diamond, 18k gold, silver.
