Antique Griffin Pendant of 14k Gold by Riker Brothers

An antique pendant created from a hatpin dating to 1910, featuring a finely sculpted griffin crafted in 14K gold with a ruby eye, an emerald accent, and an old European-cut diamond held in its jaws. The griffin, a legendary creature symbolizing strength, vigilance, and guardianship, was a favored motif in late Victorian and Edwardian jewelry. The reverse bears the maker's mark for Riker Brothers, one of America's most distinguished jewelry firms, celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship and imaginative naturalistic and figural designs. Our jeweler thoughtfully transformed the original hatpin into a wearable pendant by removing the pin findings and adding a custom gold bail, preserving the integrity and artistry of the original jewel.

The pendant measures approximately 1.1 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom and 1 inch wide. It weighs 5.52 grams and remains in great antique condition.

Gemstone identification has been confirmed using Raman spectroscopy, a non-destructive analytical technique that provides a precise chemical fingerprint to verify authenticity. Metal authenticity has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s acid testing, confirming solid 14K gold construction.

An exceptional example of early twentieth-century American craftsmanship, this rare Riker Brothers pendant combines mythical symbolism, vibrant gemstones, and masterful goldwork in a highly collectible wearable work of art.
