An outstanding mourning brooch or pendant commemorating the passing of a distinguished British gentleman.
This magnificent mid-Victorian memorial brooch/pendant features cobalt blue champleve enamel around a center North Star accented by seven roughly cut diamonds. It is wonderfully crafted and features delicate hand twisted gold wirework and hand etched floral designs.
The reverse of this brooch contains a photograph of a George Buck, a toolmaker from London. It is engraved "In Memoriam Geo Bucks at 26 Feb. 1865, at 59."
This brooch is 2.2 inches long by 2 inches wide. It tested for 14k and weighs 36.1 grams.
The piece features a tube hinge, a c-clasp, and a bale.
Materials: enamel, 14k gold, diamond.
