Art Nouveau Goddess Locket of 18k Gold

A magnificent Art Nouveau locket (circa 1890), crafted in solid 18k gold and depicting Clio, the muse of history and lyric poetry. Her serene figure is rendered in sculptural relief, framed by a brilliant halo of antique diamonds set in platinum encircling the edge—an opulent and symbolic pairing characteristic of late 19th-century artistic jewelry.

The locket measures approximately 1.4 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom by 1.1 inches wide and weighs 7.4 grams. The piece is in good condition with one soft indentation visible on the front and two small indentations on the reverse. The closed back diamonds are a bit dark in color and one is a later replacement. 

The metal has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and confirmed with jeweler’s acid testing, authenticating its 18k and platinum composition. In excellent antique condition, this locket is an extraordinary example of Art Nouveau mythological design, perfect for collectors who appreciate classical iconography, sculptural goldwork, and jewels with historic resonance.
