An extraordinary pair of Renaissance Revival earrings, these jewels capture the artistry and drama of the 19th century. The design showcases 22ct gold rub-over settings with 18k gold drops decorated in black and white enamel, suspended from leaded glass bead surmounts. The drops date to the late Victorian era (circa 1850-1880), while the 14k gold ear wires are likely later, sensitive additions to ensure comfortable wear.
At the center of each earring lies a table-cut diamond—a hallmark of historic gem cutting. One diamond measures 3.61mm by 3.81mm (H–I color, I1 clarity), while the other measures 3.77mm by 4.77mm (H–I color, SI1 clarity). Their softly reflective faceting offers a distinctive antique sparkle, different from modern brilliant cuts.
The earrings measure 1.6 inches from the top of the ear wire to bottom by 0.6 inches wide, with a combined weight of 12.28 grams. They remain in excellent condition, preserving both their dramatic presence and intricate detailing.
The gold content has been professionally tested using both X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis and jeweler’s acid testing, confirming the purity of each component (22ct, 18k, and 14k as noted).
These earrings are a rare collector’s find, embodying the opulence of the 19th century and offering both historic importance and wearable beauty.
