Victorian Amber Bead Necklace of 14k Gold

An antique Victorian-era necklace dating from approximately 1890–1900, featuring richly butterscotch and cognac colored amber beads accented by 14K gold spacers with hand twisted wirework and finished with a 14K gold clasp. Amber jewelry enjoyed immense popularity during the Victorian period, prized for its warm glow, natural beauty, and association with prosperity and protection. The vibrant amber beads display the distinctive character and depth of color that have made antique amber jewelry enduringly desirable among collectors.

The necklace measures approximately 19 inches in length and 0.8 inches in width and weighs 36.47 grams. It remains in great antique condition with well-preserved amber beads and gold components. The spring ring is a later replacement.

Material identification has been confirmed using Raman spectroscopy, a non-destructive analytical technique that provides a precise chemical fingerprint to verify authenticity. The amber is natural and there is no indication of dye.

Metal authenticity has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s acid testing, confirming 14K gold construction for the beads and clasp.
