Victorian Carved Coral Cherub on Diamond Anchor in Original Box

An extraordinary antique pendant dating to circa 1870, exquisitely centered with a finely carved pale pink coral cherub perched gracefully upon a silver-topped anchor accented with shimmering diamonds. In the cherub’s hand rests a sparkling 0.27 carat old mine cut diamond (I–J color, SI clarity), depicted as a radiant beacon of light. Rich in Victorian symbolism, the cherub embodies love and innocence, while the anchor represents hope and steadfast devotion. Together with the glowing diamond “light,” the composition evokes the guiding light of enduring love — a powerful symbol of faithfulness, safe passage, and unwavering affection through life’s uncertainties.

Crafted in the traditional Victorian manner, the pendant features a silver front designed to enhance the brilliance of the diamonds, backed in rich 15ct gold, a luxurious and highly desirable gold standard used in fine British jewelry of the period. The pendant is suspended from a striking gunmetal and leaded paste chain, whose dark metallic tones create a dramatic contrast that beautifully enhances the delicacy of the coral carving and the brilliance of the diamonds.

Measuring 2.4 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom and 1 inch wide, the pendant is suspended from a 14 inch chain, offering a bold yet elegant presence when worn. The necklace is accompanied by an antique jewelry box and includes a layaway purchase receipt from the previous owner dated 1991, adding another layer of provenance and charm.
Presented in excellent antique condition, the carving details remain crisp and beautifully preserved, with all stones secure.

Gemstone identification has been confirmed using Raman spectroscopy, a non-destructive analytical technique that provides a precise chemical fingerprint for authentication. Metal authenticity has been professionally verified through XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis together with traditional jeweler’s acid testing, confirming the composition of the precious metal elements.
